The
furniture is
made in the workshops
of Warjiyo whom
we met on our
first trip to
Indonesia in
1990. At the
time Warjiyo
was a part time
becak driver
pedalling tourists
around the town
of Yogyakarta.
As we have grown
he has grown
with us and he
now employs 45
local people
and makes 60%
of all the furniture
that we sell.
All 45 workers
are paid well
above the usual
wage for this
work and we guarantee
no children are
employed in the
workshop. This
furniture is
not made in a
large factory
but by craftsmen
using hand tools
and the skills
that have been
developed over
centuries. This,
we think, gives
it it’s unique
hand crafted
quality. We have
sought to create
a very natural
and clean look
to this range
whilst maintaining
a traditional
hand made quality
and feel.
Your furniture
is made from
solid plantation
teak. It may
be liable to
some small movement,
especially if
kept in very
warm conditions
such as too close
to a radiator
or fire. It has
been finished
with french polish
and then waxed.
In order to
keep its rich
sheen we recommend
a regular application
of bees waxed
based furniture
polish
