Batik Indah was established in 1994 by us, Andy and Rachel Mackonochie, a husband and wife team following our extensive travels through south east Asia.

We spend at least 8 weeks of every year in Bali, Java and Lombok visiting suppliers, working on and improving products and searching for new and up and coming crafts people.  The result is an offering full of amazing and unique products that is ever changing.

Our Heart is 100% in Fair Trade 

At the centre of our ethos is a genuine belief in fair trade.  At Batik Indah we don't just click a few boxes and then call ourselves fair trade.  We have over 30 suppliers (mainly in Bali) all of whom are small to medium sized family run businesses.  We have known many of these suppliers for more than 20 years and would consider them friends as well as business partners.  We believe in negotiating a competitive price from our suppliers that enables us to offer our products at realistic wholesale prices.  However, we will never push our suppliers to offer a price that they are not comfortable with or is not sustainable.  With more than 30 years of experience we know instinctively the comfortable 'win/win' price.  We believe in long term relationships with our suppliers and co-operate with them to develop new lines, working together to improve existing products.  The crafts people we do business with are masters in their respective arts and we ensure that all monies go directly to them, their families and the village people whom they employ and/or who they outsource to.

Unique Handicrafts

Van Sales



In addition to offering wonderful, unique and fair-trade products, our USP is a very personalised van sales service.  If you are interested in buying from us, we can arrange for Andy or Rachel to visit with a fully stocked van.  They will then be able to show you in person all the products which might appeal to you and they will be in your shop and ready to sell before they  leave.

    • A gorgeous range of hand crafted nautical giftware including mobiles, driftwood plaques, painted animal wall plaques, seaside outdoor signs and painted shells.

Mirrors

    • Made from Durian wood and other local wood in Bali.  All are hand carved by Wayan Widura and his family.
    • Also a wide range of Driftwood mirrors.
    • Colourful, striking mosaic mirrors.

    • From seahorses to elephants to whales, we have an enormous range of wooden animal carvings.

Root Glass Bowls and Glass Vases

    • Made by moulding hand blown, re-cycled molten glass onto a root wood base - massively popular!

    • Made for us by Anggi and her family in central Bali.
